Dates: September 24-29, 2013
Event: Chennault Air Show
Location: Lake Charles, LA

cadetsThe community of Southwest Louisiana was definitely ready for an airshow. It had been over 15 years since their last event. Air Show organizers estimate the attendance at over 20,000 spectators. The CAF Red Tail Squadron was sponsored by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. On Wednesday morning, Randy Robb of the Chennault Airport Authority, along with members of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury cut the ribbon to officially open the Exhibit to the community of Lake Charles. Afterwards, they enjoyed a special showing of the RISE ABOVE movie.

Alan Miller flew the P-51C Mustang twice in the show on both Saturday and Sunday. The crowd enjoyed the solo performance showing the true power of the Mustang, and the second performance which included flying escort to the Commemorative Air Force B-29, FIFI.

The media attention for the Red Tail Squadron included several interviews on the radio, television and newspaper.

Educational Outreach Visits – Students from Hamilton Christian, SW Charter, Covenant Grace, and SOWELA were invited to see the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit on Wednesday and Thursday. Two special groups from the Villa Maria Retirement Home and the Cub Scouts also attended. Over 326 students enjoyed their RISE ABOVE Experience and received their inspirational dog tag.
