With beautiful skies, Thunder Over Michigan opened the gates for their two-day event – as a celebration of their history and heritage. Willow Run played a very important role during World War II with the production of the B-24 bomber.

The Commemorative Air Force’s Red Tail Squadron’s RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit and the P-51C Mustang on display with the TAI Detroit Chapter. There were 3 original Tuskegee Airmen who attended and signed autographs, Alexander Jefferson, John Cunningham and Richard Jennings. The crowd enjoyed talking with the Tuskegee Airmen and hearing their stories.

Numerous interviews were conducted over the weekend. CAF Red Tail Squadron Pilot, Paul Stojkov spent numerous hours explaining about the mustang to the interested guests. Melanie, Tracy and Shorty also helped Terry and Jeanette at the display and in taking care of the P-51C Mustang.

Educational Outreach – The CAF Red Tail Squadron’s RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit was set up at the Yankee Air Museum for visits on Friday. Over 150 children enjoyed their RISE ABOVE Experience as they received their Inspirational Dog Tags. The total number of children for the weekend was 564.
