007The CAF Red Tail Squadron would like to thank all of our supporters who made donations to fund the engine replacement for our P-51C Mustang, the Tuskegee Airmen. We want to show you first-hand an example of the return on your donation investment to our organization.

Recently our dedicated crew worked hard, giving up an entire weekend to install the new engine with the assistance of the folks from AirCorps Aviation, specialists in the restoration, maintenance, and rebuilding of vintage WWII aircraft. The group’s time and effort was spent meticulously preparing the new engine for installation, setting and bolting in place, and connecting lines. It was a huge undertaking, and it couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of our generous donors.

The work took place at the AirCorps hangar in Bemidji, MN.

“Installation is a delicate process,” said Steve Kaminsen, CAF Red Tail Squadron safety officer and crew chief. “The engine weighs over 1,600 pounds and with clearances of 1/8″ in some areas positioning is very important.”

To help fund future projects for the CAF Red Tail Squadron – from critical mechanical upkeep and maintenance to the Tuskegee Airmen to funding our important education outreach visits to schools and community groups throughout the country – join us as a much appreciated donor. You can support the organization by becoming an annual sponsor, making a one-time donation or purchasing gifts and merchandise on our website. All funds raised support our mission to inspire youth and preserve the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen through outreach to educators, our RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit and the P-51C Mustang, the Tuskegee Airmen.

“Thank you to everyone who made this new engine possible,” said Steve. “We appreciate our donors. We can continue our valuable work because of their passion and support of our mission.”
