On October 2-5 the CAF Red Ta 10669334_718067074940971_3513277791046784249_oil Squadron participated in the CAF Air Expo at the Dallas Executive airport (formally Redbird airport). This the location for the National Airbase for the CAF.   The Air Expo had an “Open House” feel which was welcomed by the local neighbors. DOTA’s Calvin Spann and Homer Houge joined the audience and shared their memories with the crowd. Gordon Guillory, President of the local Tuskegee chapter (Claude R. Platte Chapter) spent many hours with us.
The RISE ABOVE traveling exhibit appeared at the Friendship West Baptist Church earlier in the week. Approximately 1500 individuals experienced the CAF Red Tail Squadron. The crowd was estimated at over 5,000 people for the 4 day event.
While the weather on Thursday evening was poor the weather improved dramatically for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Many Units/Wings were in attendance. The CAF B-29, B-17, B25’s, P-51D (Gunfighter), SB2C Helldiver, Zero, C-45 and A-26 made up part of the WWII CAF fleet that excited the crowd.

For many neighbors this was the first time they were able to interact with the CAF. The CAF Red Tail Squadron enjoyed many positive words about the entire event. President Steve Brown spoke with the local media which was very helpful in encouraging the DFW community to come to the airport. The C model flew several times during the week and was greeted with great enthusiasm. Many misconceptions about how the CAF conducts its business were put to rest and aCAF WW 2 Air Power 018 great foundation established for those who are interested in inspiring a new generation.
A big thanks to Marvona Welsh, Terry and Jeanette Hollis, Brad Lang, Gordon Guillory and the Dallas community for making this CAF “Open House” event a great success!
