During his service in World War II, Army Air Forces Second Lieutenant Coleman experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on June 15, 1945. Recorded circumstances attributed to: “Non hostile death, air crash”.

Member of the Tuskegee Airmen. He was born in Texarkana, TX and later his family moved to Detroit. He crashed and was killed while practicing dive-bombing after VE Day.

James Coleman is buried or memorialized at Plot H Row 3 Grave 48, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location.
