Tuskegee Airman Captain John Daniels served with the 99th Fight Squadron. On November 19, 1944, he was part of a strafing mission over Austria that earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross. He later perished at Tuskegee Army Air Field. Like many other Tuskegee Airmen, Daniels heroics were unbeknownst to some of his family as the years passed by. His granddaughter learned about the Tuskegee Airmen while a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and make the astounding discovery that her own grandfather was one of these legendary pilots of World War II.
