The CAF Red Tail Squadron brought their message of inspiration to the community of St. Thomas Ontario, Canada at the Great Lakes International Air Show. The show featured the P-51C Mustang’s performance right before the final act, the Canadian F-18 Demo Team. CAF Red Tail Pilot, Bill Shepard performed on both Saturday and Sunday, as the Mustang flew a solo performance and then a Heritage Flight with the Harvard T-6.

The Commemorative Air Force was well represented at this event. The Arizona Wing’s B-17, Sentimental Journey was landing as the Mustang made the first pass – making for an unusual photo opportunity.

The crowd really embraced the Tuskegee Airmen experience, as the crew answered numerous questions about the Commemorative Air Force, the P-51C Mustang, and the Tuskegee Airmen. Many flocked over to meet Bill after each performance, as he signed autographs and posed for pictures.

The CAF Red Tail Squadron’s display was supported by Tracy, Melanie and Marvona as they set up in front of the Mustang. CAF Red Tail merchandise was sold while they shared the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. The community bought almost everything on the table, as they wanted souvenirs of this beautiful Mustang.

Attendance: 25,000 spectators

Educational Outreach Visits: The Mustang and the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s RISE ABOVE Display were featured at the VIP Dinner and Hour of Power Air Show on Friday evening. Numerous guests chatted with Bill Shepard, as he shared his story with those in attendance and conducted interviews. Since the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit could not attend this event, the Red Tail Reborn movie was played at least 10 times throughout the weekend. The large screen television was positioned so that the guests would view the movie, as they entered the airshow.
