The CAF Red Tail Squadron’s P-51C attended the LA County Airshow on March 21-22 2014. This was held at Fox Field in Lancaster, CA.  The crowd turnout was good. An estimated 100,000 people enjoyed the two-day event, which featured the return of the Navy’s Blue Angel flight demonstration team. The weather was clear and windy.

Former Los Angeles Tuskegee Chapter President, DOTA, Ted Lumpkin attended the airshow with LAC TAI member Geraldine Lehman.

This was the first time the CAF Red Tail Mustang attended an airshow in CA. Our presence was in conjunction with the Los Angeles Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen (LAC TAI).

The LAC TAI ‘s presence was coordinated by Terry Carter and a booth was set up in close proximity to the P-51C Mustang. The LAC TAI Chapter and the CAF Red Tail Squadron worked together in the spirit of the joint MOU that was established between the two organizations several years ago.

Former Los Angeles Tuskegee Chapter President, DOTA, Ted Lumpkin attended the airshow with LAC TAI member Geraldine Lehman. Ted served in Italy as the Intelligence Officer for the 100th FS. Geraldine’s late husband, DOTA Lt. Col. Paul Lehman, was a member of the 477th BG and flew B-29 combat missions during the Korean Conflict.  Thousands of individuals were able to see the red tail P-51C Mustang fly in the show as well as interact with the local members of the LA Tuskegee chapter. The LAC TAI chapter sold out of their books that were for sale. The combined efforts of the local TAI chapter and the CAF Red Tail Squadron received many compliments from the crowd and illustrate the benefits that can be achieved when TAI chapters and the CAF Red Tail Squadron work together.

In addition, five rides were given in the week prior to and during the airshow. A big thanks to Marvona Welsh, Dr. Alan Cummings (Buford A. Johnson Chapter President), and LAC TAI members Terry Carter, Ted Lumpkin and Gerri Lehman for their efforts in coordinating this event.
