The Thunder on the Lakeshore Airshow held their 21st annual event at the Manitowoc County Airport on Saturday and Sunday. With the beautiful weather, air show organizers estimated that over 70,000 people came out to support this event.
The Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron’s P- 51C was featured the show. The Detroit Tuskegee Airmen Museum also participated with their T-6 and the power gliders. CAF Red Tail Pilot Bill Shepard delighted the crowd as he flew both the P-51C Mustang and the T-6 in the show. The community enjoyed viewing the historical aircraft and meeting the Tuskegee Airmen representatives.
Attendance: Over 70,000 spectators
Educational Outreach Visits: Bill Shepard invited a special group to the Fulton County Airport in Atlanta to view the P-51C Mustang – before he began his trip to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. They came to see the plane and talk to Bill about how the Tuskegee Airmen inspired him to follow his dream to become a pilot. Bill shared his inspiration with the children in attendance and talked about how to Aim High, Believe In Yourself, Use Your Brain, Be Ready To Go, Never Quit and Expect To Win.
