CAF Red Tail Squadron – Event Update William Marsh Bower Center, Ravenna, Ohio

Event: William Marsh Bower Center Dedication
Location: Portage County Airport in Ravenna, Ohio
Col. William Marsh graduated from the Army Air Force Flying School in 1940 and was selected for Jimmy Doolittle’s raid on Tokyo. Bower piloted the B-25 No. 12 off the USS Hornet on April 18, 1942.
The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit was part of the dedication celebration of the William Marsh Bower Center on June 8, 2013. This special day included a 5K Run, a 1 mile Memorial Walk, helicopter rides, a Classic Car Cruise- in, a special VIP lunch, and Young Eagle rides.
The RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit was open to the public on Friday and Saturday. During the weekend, over 74 Young Eagles received flights and there were over 120 runners who participated in the 5K run.
The organizers were very pleased with the event and members of the Bill Bower family were also in attendance. The Ravenna Community really enjoyed their RISE ABOVE Experience.
Attendance: Over 600 spectators
Educational Outreach: The community and special groups were invited to see the special showing of the RISE ABOVE movie on Friday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
