Dates: August 24-25, 2013
Event: Wings over Wheels – Aviation Gala
Location: Erie International Airport – Tom Ridge Field
Attendance: Estimated to be over 10,000 spectators

Brad with familyErie International Airport celebrated the end of its runway project with a free Aviation Gala Open House. The two-day event, presented by Erie Promotions and Expos featured more than 25 planes, an antique car show, a hot-air balloon demonstration and the CAF’s RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit with the P-51C Mustang.

There were numerous media opportunities with several interviews conducted throughout the weekend by Brad Lang, our Squadron Leader. The local media did a great job of promoting the event with a record attendance.

Our loyal sponsors are Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, Erie Regional Airport Authority, Highmark and Urban Erie Community Development Corporation. Erie plans to make this an annual event – and we could not do this without their assistance. We always appreciate our sponsors and thank them whenever we can.

Melanie Burden traveled from Canada to volunteer for this event. She really helped out by cleaning the plane, answering questions, registering our guests and helping Terry and Jeanette with the logistics of the theater.

Educational Outreach – Over 369 children registered for their RISE ABOVE Experience.
