The 7th Annual Wings and Wheels Fly-In/Drive-In was held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Beauregard Regional Airport. Despite the threat of a tropical storm, several thousand people attended this event, and enjoyed their RISE ABOVE Experience.
The media coverage was fantastic. It began on Monday, as Alan Miller gave a ride to a special World War II Veteran, Howard Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was awarded the Bronze Star for his work as a mechanic on the P-38 and the P-51 in World War II. On Friday as Brad Lang and the Mustang arrived at DeRidder, he brought a special guest, Dennis Squires of Barksdale Federal Credit Union. And during the event, Donnette Judd was the winner of a ride in the P-51C Mustang.
Educational Outreach Visits – Students from various schools were invited to the Beauregard Regional Airport to see the RISE ABOVE movie. Barksdale Federal Credit Union was also set up and they distributed treats to the students as well. In addition, the students received a tour of the Hangar and talks from various pilots. This community is very interested in education for their youth. Over 650 children were inspired as they received their inspirational dog tags.
