Sylvester Bernard Parrish
December 9, 1916 – July 9, 2004
Sylvester Parrish was born December 9, 1916 in Danville, Virginia, the son of Clifton and Rebecca (Huskerman) Parrish.
He graduated from the former Dunbar (Pa.) Township High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pa.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army Air Corps and served with the famous Tuskegee Airmen as a Gunnery Trainer at Tuskegee, Alabama.
In his earlier years he was a Purchasing Agent for the Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, Pa.
Mr. Parrish retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Senior Field Tax Auditor, a career that spanned over 30 years. He was the first Black State Tax Auditor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He also had his private accounting and tax firm and served many clients in the area.
He was a member of Payne A.M.E. Church where he was a former Trustee and a member of American Legion Post 762 in Trotter.

Local Airman Given Honorable Discharge
Patterson Field, Ohio – Dec. 7 – Sergeant Sylvester Parrish of Connellsville was honorably discharged from the Army Air forces recently after more than three year’s service.
Entering the Army in February 1942 at Fort Meade, Maryland, he was stationed at Tuskegee Army Air Field, Alabama, where he was assigned to a duty as oxygen specialist on the flight line. Sergeant Parrish is the son of Clifton Parrish of Connellsville and is married to the former Miss Frances Barrette, of Dawson, Pennsylvania.
