Milton Reed Brooks

November 11, 1916 – March 3, 1965

Captain Milton Reed Brooks was born ironically on Veterans Day, November 11, 1916 and was raised in Glassport, PA. After graduating from Glassport H.S. he entered the Army Air Corp in 1941 and graduated in Cadet Class 43-E at Tuskegee Training Center.

He became a flight commander and Captain with the Tuskegee Airmen. He was part of the 302 Fighter Squadron and flew 82 missions over enemy territory. He was credited with an air victory shooting down an enemy aircraft on October 12th, 1944.

Captain Brooks was decorated with awards and Campaign Medals for European-African, Middle Eastern, and Italy. Medals included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Stars for air offensives, Silver and Bronze leaf Clusters, as well as the WWII victory and The American Campaign medals.

After the war, Captain Brooks graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, followed by graduating Howard University Dental School in 1956. His first Dental practice was in Warren, Ohio for approximately 5 years. His next move was to relocate the family to Englewood, N.J. and establish his dental practice in West Englewood, N.J.  While there was an active member with Christ Episcopal Church as well as serving on the boards of the Bergen County Urban League and the Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Tragically, Captain Brooks died suddenly on March 3, 1965 of an acute Myocardial Infarction. His wife Alta Sims Brooks passed away a year later after his death

His son (Stephen M. Brooks, M.D., and grandchildren Ashley and Patrick) were presented with a gorgeous memorial of his awards and medals at congresswoman Val Demings office.
