332nd Fighter Group Operations Building at Ramitelli Air Field

This building, still standing today, is the original operations center of the 332nd Fighter Group when the Tuskegee Airmen were stationed at Ramitelli Air Field on the Adriatic coast of Italy. The Tuskegee Airmen were moved to this location in May of 1944 to join the 15th Air Force. Here, they would fly brand new P-51 Mustangs, painting their tails red, and began the long range bomber escort missions into central and eastern Europe that would earn them accolades for their talent and tenacity as escorts. Prior to their time at Ramitelli, the Tuskegee Airmen has been flying tactical missions for the 12th Air Force from North Africa and within Italy.
