In May 2017, a memorial to original Tuskegee Airman pilot Lyman L. Hubbard Sr. was unveiled at the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. He was the only resident of Springfield, IL to graduate from pilot training in the Tuskegee program. He trained as a bomber pilot with the 477th Bombardment Group.
