Dorothy Avery graduated with WASP class W7 at Avenger Field, Texas on November 13, 1943. She would have received the W7 graduation wing using a ‘Juarez’ base and class shield as did all 59 graduates. Avery served with the WASP’s until they were disbanded in 1944 and was stationed at Mather Army Air Base, Sacramento, CA and March Army Air Base, Riverside, CA. She later worked as an inspector for the Navy Lockhead Service Center.
Several of Dottie’s letters, as well as photographs of her time in the WASPs, can be found at the Women Veterans Historical Project at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, NC.
